to read and to watch

I was in LA so I haven’t been able to post these past few days (I was busy eating, spa-ing, discussing online dating profiles, spotting celebrities, learning that Nicole Richie is THE tiniest woman in the world, not sleeping, and eating some more). It was the birthday of my dear friend Chynna who was celebrating for an entire weekend with an infinite amount of food (this girl had a sushi buffet lunch and fancy Napa Rose dinner, plus she had two birthday cakes from Portos and a pre-birthday chocolate cake). Chynna’s an overindulgent wine and dine whore and it’s why I love her.
I thought I’d share some of my favorite reads and videos from the Interwebs last week. I found all of these articles and videos to be actually interesting (read: something worth giving your attention to for longer than a minute). If you’re anything like me, I think you might get something out of them, too.
Emma Watson gave a U.N. speech on gender equality, a must-watch from last week. Also, how is she so elegant when I’m typing on my laptop in a corner, hunched over, hair in a dirty bun (not a chic top knot, but a dirty faux-bun with strands falling out), and with, probably, some stain on my shirt?
There’s nothing more intriguing than an exposé on the fashion industry. In this interview with avant-garde designer Jeremy Laing, the designer talks about why he chose to end his fashion line.
I’m obsessed with the dreamy artwork by illustrator KT Smail, so I’ve been stalking her illustrations and pretty paintings on her Tumblr, Thistledown Spirits.
Here’s an old article that I often think about whenever I’m having an existential meltdown over being a grown up, 9-to-5 jobs, and poor paying side gigs (a.k.a. the grind/being a writer). It’s called In the Name of Love and it’s a great article on the “do what you love” mantra we hear so often and how the mentality has a negative effect on our work lives.
Reflections of a fashion blogger by Late Afternoon’s Liz, my old coworker.
The new season of Aisha Tyler’s Girl on Guy podcast has started and I’m pretty excited to listen to the first episode on my next BART ride.
I recently wrote an article for Chictopia about how to start a blog and get in the groove of blogging, inspired by The Daily Post’s Blogging 101 series. It’s called The Ultimate Novice Blogger Checklist.
The Christophe Lemaire S/S 2015 RTW collection has me falling in love with all-denim outfits again. I love the proportions and now I really wish I could pull off boyfriend jeans.
I need this.
